East Atlanta

East Atlanta

Lay of the land

East Atlanta sits about three miles southeast of downtown, bordered by Ormewood Park to the west, Reynoldstown to the north, and the Glenwood Park/Edgewood corridor to the east. The neighborhood centers on East Atlanta Village (EAV), the commercial cluster at the intersection of Flat Shoals Avenue and Glenwood Avenue.

EAV is one of the more genuinely-Atlanta commercial cores left intown. The strip has the Earl (live music), Argosy (one of the city’s better beer bars), the EAV farmers market every Thursday, and a mix of independent restaurants. The neighborhood skews younger than Grant Park or Ormewood and has a distinctly music-scene identity.

The housing is mostly 1910s through 1930s craftsman bungalows on hilly streets. Pricing tends to come in 10 to 20 percent below comparable Grant Park or Ormewood houses, and the neighborhood still has more inventory under $700k than its neighbors.

The Atlanta Beltline Southside Trail will eventually run along the northern edge. Schools feed Maynard Jackson High. Parking around EAV on weekend nights is the chief recurring complaint.
