Virginia-Highland is named for its commercial spine: the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Virginia Avenue, ten minutes north of Inman Park. The “village” along North Highland (Murphy’s, Highland Bakery, San Francisco Coffee, Atkins Park Tavern) is one of the most walkable commercial nodes in the city.

The housing stock is dense and consistent: 1910s and 1920s craftsman bungalows and Tudor cottages on flat streets in tight grids. Lots are smaller than Morningside or Ansley Park, but the trade-off is walking access to the village and to Piedmont Park, which sits on the immediate western edge.

Schools feed Springdale Park Elementary, Inman Middle, and Midtown High. The annual Tour of Homes every December is a city-wide event. Restaurants on N. Highland have stayed open through every Atlanta downturn; the neighborhood has a reputation for keeping its commercial mix stable.

This is the most walkable single-family neighborhood in intown Atlanta. People often buy here and immediately sell their second car.
